Dr. Steven D. Marshall Receives the 2026 Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics from the American Board of Orthodontics

The Dale B. Wade award recognizes an exemplary senior clinician and board-certified orthodontist who demonstrates exceptional dedication to orthodontics through clinical excellence and/or devoted teaching.

 

Dr. Steven D. Marshall

Steven D. Marshall, D.D.S., M.S. of Chicago, Illinois, has received the 2026 Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics from the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Marshall received his D.D.S. from Northwestern University Dental School in 1984 and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. He received his Certificate in Orthodontics and M.S. in Oral Biology from Northwestern University in 1986. He holds an M.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Iowa and a B.A. in Chemistry from Knox College.

Dr. Marshall is currently Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He has been a member of the faculty at Iowa in various capacities since 2003. He served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at Northwestern University Dental School from 1986 until the school’s closing in 2000 and maintained a private specialty practice in Chicago from 1986 to 2022. He currently practices one-half day per week in the College of Dentistry faculty practice.

Dr. Marshall was previously honored with the O.B. Vaughn Special Recognition Award from the ABO in 2015. He emphasized the importance of the ABO’s mission and its impact on patient care:

“I view the work of the ABO as vitally important in maintaining the highest educational standards for our profession, which inform and support the care we provide the public,” Dr. Marshall said.

Dr. Marshall is currently Associate Editor of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and the AJO-DO Clinical Companion, and has served as ABO Examiner since 2010. He has been on the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) Council on Scientific Affairs for eight years, serving as chair from 2021 to 2023.

Dr. Marshall has co-authored three books and published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles on topics spanning facial growth, transverse dentoalveolar development, and skeletal anchorage. He has been a featured speaker at national and regional meetings across the U.S.

Dr. Marshall is a member of the AAO, the Midwest Society of Orthodontists, the Iowa Society of Orthodontists, and the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, where he served as President of the Midwest Component from 2014 to 2015.
