Leadership & Professional Growth Opportunities

The American Board of Orthodontics welcomes your unique perspective and strengths through a variety of leadership and professional growth opportunities, empowering you to make meaningful contributions to the specialty while advancing your own development.

Opportunities include:

ABO Standard Setting and Practice Analysis Panels

Standard Setting and Practice Analysis Panels are groups of experienced, ABO-Board Certified orthodontists who assemble, as needed, to work with the ABO’s third party psychometrician. Emails are sent out when applications are being accepted, and instructions will also be added below.

ABO Ambassadors

ABO Ambassadors are ABO-Board Certified orthodontists (who have completed the Scenario-based Clinical Examination) trained to deliver in-person and virtual ABO Pathway Presentations. Ambassadors serve a two-year term offering mentorship to residents and candidates helping guide them on their pathway to board certification. Emails are sent out when applications are being accepted, and instructions will also be added below.

ABO Consultants and Examiners

ABO Consultants and Examiners play an invaluable role in the development, editing, and evaluation of the ABO written, clinical, and certification renewal examinations. Eligible candidates must be board certified for at least two years and have a minimum of five years clinical experience post-residency.

ABO Board of Directors

ABO Board of Directors are responsible for setting the direction, actions, and safeguards of the organization. The Directors establish the visionary path for the ABO, ensuring alignment with the organization's vision and mission. Board members are nominated by their constituency organizations.

Each Director is a representative of their constituency organization. When a term ends, the constituency organization submits 3-5 Director nominees to be considered for the Director role. For timing and more information about the nomination process, contact your constituency leader.
